FRD wins ETV "Website of the Week"

For the week of April 9-15, 2008 the MUSC Foundation for Research Development (FRD) was featured as the South Carolina Business Review "Website of the Week."  Featured on the Business Review piece played on South Carolina's National Public Radio, Dr. Ryan Fiorini, a licensing and technology analyst for the foundation discussed the role FRD plays in the transferring of intellectual property from the University to the public sector.  Dr. Fiorini went on to discuss two key technologies that FRD is currently working on.  The first is a novel bladder cancer test which screens patients for cancer without the common pain or infection associated with the current standard of care.  The proposed device will hopefully look similar to a urine based pregnancy test offering immediate results for common cancers.

The second technology that Dr. Fiorini spoke about is a novel peptide that is put onto a broken bone to improve healing time following a break.  While this technology is relatively early stage, its initial results look extremely promising.

A podcast of this show will be posted to the FRD website under the "Multimedia" section in the next week or so.  As always, please contact Dr. Ryan Fiorini if you have any questions or comments.
