What should I do if I invent something?

If you think you might have invented something, you will need to download and fill out the Record of Invention Form or Copyright Disclosure Form and submit it to our office.  We are always happy to talk to you and help you through the process.

How do I know if I invented something?

We often get the questions, "How do I know if I invented something?"  The answer, however, isnt all that easy to asnwer.  I will say that we often hear from our inventors, "I didnt think that this had any value, so I didnt disclose it to you."  or "I didnt want to waste your time, so i didnt send in the forms."  To that I must say, Please send in your record of invention forms ANYTIME you have something novel, non-obvious, and useful.  If you ever wonder if your invention might be useful, please call me and we can likely make a decision within a 5 minute phone call.  My direct line is 876-1906 (6-1906 from on campus).
