Dr. Jerry Reves, M.D.

Dr. Jerry Reves is the MUSC Vice President of Medical Affairs and the Dean of the MUSC College of Medicine. Dr. Reves graduated from Vanderbilt University before returning to Charleston to earn his medical degree from the Medical College of South Carolina. Dr. Reves completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Alabama Hospital and Clinics and earned a Master of Science degree in physiology and biophysics one year later. Dr. Reves has spent almost thirty years in academic medicine since beginning his career at the University of Alabama as an instructor with the Department of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Reves later joined the Anesthesiology Department Training Staff at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland before returning to the University of Alabama as a professor in his former department. Dr. Reves also joined the Duke University Medical Center as Professor of Anesthesiology and Director of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia and became the Department Chairman. Dr. Reeves has a long list of achievements including being the first elected President of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, founding the Duke Heart Center, being published in over 200 scientific publications and creating one of the nation's most prominent cardiovascular fellowship programs. Dr. Reves has also been elected to lead numerous medical boards, societies, and organizations such as the Association of University Anesthetists, the Association of Cardiac Anesthesiologists, and the International Anesthesia Research Society.
