Acute organ injuries are a common problem without effective treatments. Since most cases of acute organ failure present to hospitals or physicians after the event has occurred, only drugs that act downstream of the injury will be truly effective. Currently, there is only one approved drug available (TPA for stroke) that can be given after injury has occurred that is effective. Thus, the market is wide-open for drugs to promote repair and regeneration.
SchnellGen is focused on the development of drugs that specifically promote cell repair and regeneration, and accelerate recovery of organ function. There are no current alternatives to treat acute renal failure after injury. More broadly, companies continue to search for drug treatments for stroke and heart failure, without much success.
