Tell FRD What Research You Are Doing

What kind of research are you doing? I figured I would write about Sponsored Research for today's FRD Blog. We often receive calls from industry representatives that request to look through our portfolio of technologies for intellectual property that is available for licensing. When we speak with the representative, we attempt to find the area of healthcare they are interested in and we look to find all available technologies, and often contact researchers in the field to meet with these industries. It is important to note that the visit may lead to anything from a sponsored research agreement to a license of the technology. A sponsored research agreement is essentially where the industry organization gives a "grant" (external research resources) to the PI to conduct work within a specified research plan.

So what's the problem? Well, we don't know what research everyone does. Often, we receive calls from industry representatives looking for a specific area of research and we don't know of any research at MUSC in that field. We recommend calling our office and talking with one of the licensing managers to fill us in on your specific research. We will keep this info in our database, and when we receive a request in your field of research, we can give you a call. Please call Dr. Ryan Fiorini at 876-1906 or fiorinir@musc.edu
