Yashmin J.G. Karten, Ph.D.

Dr. Yashmin Karten joined the MUSC Foundation for Research Development in September 2006 as a Licensing Manager. Her role at FRD is to develop and implement commercialization strategies for MUSC inventions and technologies. She functions as a liaison between MUSC researchers, patent attorneys, and industry representatives. Yashmin is a MBA student at the Citadel. Before joining FRD, she worked at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Maryland where she was involved in managing marketing and licensing of NIH technologies. Yashmin conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Arizona and the National Institute of Mental Health, in the field of neuroscience. She was awarded a Long-Term Fellowship award from the Human Frontiers Sciences Program in 2000, the same year that she received her Ph.D. in Medical Biology from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In her spare time, she plays underwater hockey.
